Thomas Bunt (NL, 1998) investigates the escapism of gathering collectively in the night. The sudden disappearance of nightlife as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic has brought the sharp-felt absence of social contact into the light. The possibilities to meet, touch and dance with others have never been more limited. Using both visual and audio stimuli, Bunt presents his latest piece, We are the Sublime, a visual composition dedicated to the divine experience of an imagined reality beyond our physical realm. Bunt manifests collectivity through the act of daydreaming, encouraging his audience to morph into the spaces we would rather be. The mind is powerful, so here’s to feeling free, feeling safe and being able to dance once again.
