After the release of the solo-cd-with-a-little-help-from-his-friends ‘Nachtschade’ (Subroutine Records, 2016; **** de Volkskrant), singer, guitarist and songwriter Marc van der Holst once again formed a band around him, who soon worked on a successor: ‘what a circle is’. “Nachtschade” was an album full of ingenious, functional thumbnails about blackberry jam, talking to animals, a 20-part knife senset and love; the new, semi-autobiographical songs are about alcohol and drugs, turning records backwards, burning churches, mood disorders and loss. It has become a real “band album”, with music that dates back to the 1990s (in which three-quarters of the band grew up and even went to the same high school).

The album was recorded by Tammo Kersbergen and Floyd Atema in the Katzwijm Studio, the work of the too soon passed Corno Zwetsloot, to whom the record is dedicated.
