Artemis
NL: Artemis is een driekoppige rock/metal band uit Delft/Amsterdam met toenemend progressieve neigingen. Waar hun vroegere werk toegankelijke blues-rock bevat, zoeken ze nu de grenzen op met complexe ritmes, onverwachte riffs en diepe thema’s. Tegelijkertijd behouden ze een krachtig, oprecht geluid dat uitnodigt tot headbangen. Hun aankomende album album Before the Coral Crumbles heeft dan ook weinig weg van de debuut EP “Falcon” uit 2024 of de single “Huntress” uit mei van dit 2025. Dit waren toegankelijkere blues-rock nummers. Maar nu komt Artemis met een ruigere, complexere, progressieve sound.
Op lyrisch vlak laat Artemis zich onder meer inspireren door continentale filosofen als Søren Kierkegaard, Jean Paul Sartre en Hannah Arendt. Vaak vormen meteorologische thema’s een metafoor voor de geworpenheid van de mens in een wereld die van toeval en onvermijdelijkheid aan elkaar hangt en waarin de mens ondanks zijn lot toch de plicht tot agentschap heeft.
EN: Artemis is a three-piece rock/metal band from Delft/Amsterdam with increasingly progressive leanings. While their earlier work featured accessible blues-rock, they now push the boundaries with complex rhythms, unexpected riffs, and deep themes. At the same time, they maintain a powerful, sincere sound that invites headbanging. Their upcoming album, Before the Coral Crumbles, bears little resemblance to their 2024 debut EP “Falcon” or the single “Huntress” from May 2025. These were more accessible blues-rock songs. But now, Artemis presents a rougher, more complex, progressive sound.
Lyrically, Artemis draws inspiration from continental philosophers such as Søren Kierkegaard, Jean Paul Sartre, and Hannah Arendt. Meteorological themes often serve as a metaphor for humanity’s being thrown into a world teeming with chance and inevitability, where, despite our fate, humanity still has a duty of agency.
