Mirjam Ravier x Stadsschouwburg
ENG – ‘Uncanny Valley’ is a dance performance that explores the complexity of human identity. Through hiphop dance, Mirjam Ravier crafts a profound solo performance that makes the paradox of human existence tangible. Using dance, fabric, and lighting, she transforms the body in ways that are both captivating and unsettling. Intimately close to you as a spectator, she questions the need for consistency, unity and clarity in how we show ourselves to the outside world. Instead, she openly shows the contradictions and awkward impulses of human nature and perhaps even invites you to celebrate them. Just like sand slipping through your fingers, or a fading thought in the back of your head, you may only ever get a glimpse of what it truly means to be human. Similarly, Mirjam Ravier strives to show the many layers of thought, feeling and impulse that make up our lives.
Mirjam is a freestyle dancer and choreographer, mainly focused on creating dance pieces that take place in between spectators or in close contact with spectators. Curiosity and sincerity are key concepts in her art and life. With an abstract approach to hiphop, she transforms experience and thoughts into meaningful expression. Mirjam completed her studies in hiphop styles at De Dansopleiding in Utrecht in 2019. Since then, she has created several pieces for, among others, the Café Theater Festival and Delft Fringe, and has performed at de Nederlandse Dansdagen and Danstheater AYA.
NL – ‘Uncanny Valley’ is een dansvoorstelling die de complexiteit van de menselijke identiteit verkent. Door middel van hiphop dans maakt Mirjam Ravier een diepgaande solovoorstelling die de paradox van het menselijk bestaan tastbaar maakt. Met behulp van dans, stof en licht transformeert ze het lichaam op een manier die zowel boeiend als verontrustend is. Vlakbij jou als toeschouwer, stelt ze de behoefte aan consistentie, eenheid en duidelijkheid in de manier waarop we onszelf aan de buitenwereld tonen ter discussie. Ze toont openlijk de tegenstrijdigheden en onhandige impulsen van de menselijke natuur en nodigt je misschien zelfs uit deze te vieren. Net als zand dat door je vingers glipt, of een vervagende gedachte in je achterhoofd, krijg je misschien maar een glimp te zien van wat het werkelijk betekent om mens te zijn. Mirjam Ravier streeft ernaar om de vele lagen van gedachten, gevoelens en impulsen waaruit ons leven bestaat te laten zien. Mirjam is een freestyle danseres en choreografe, voornamelijk gericht op het creëren van dansstukken die zich afspelen tussen toeschouwers of in nauw contact met toeschouwers. Nieuwsgierigheid en oprechtheid zijn sleutelbegrippen in haar kunst en leven. Met een abstracte benadering van hiphop zet ze ervaringen en gedachten om in betekenisvolle expressie.
